Today I have been challenged (by Photography Awesomesauce) to blog about my passion as a photographer. The 5 W's if you will: the who, what, where, why and when of my young career. It has finally come full circle, but it literally took me years to get here. Follow along if you dare...
My story begins many years ago, with my father (although my mother would disagree). I remember snooping in my parent's bedroom and coming across a sketch pad that my dad used. In it, there were many cartoon type characters ranging from funny to political. He never considered himself an artist, but I recall that he could make/create anything with his hands. If my mom wanted something for the home, he would build it. He always had a vision and still does to this day.
His ability to create, became a passion in me. Even though I wasn't building furniture or painting murals, I studied the arts in school and honed my skills artistically. Musically, is where I cut my teeth on creativity. I took vocal lessons for a number of years and became an accomplished oboist by the time I was in high school.
Even though I was encouraged musically, I was never without a camera in my hand. However, it wasn't until college that I discovered how much I enjoyed photography. Being able to take a blank canvas (literally a white piece of photo paper), put it under an enlarger and create an image...THAT was what pulled me in. I even remember a guy in my classes comparing me to Ansel Adams. If you are familiar, you know that was a compliment of epic proportions!! Things have changed so much since then, but my desire to create hasn't been lost through the years. What started in a dark room (literally in the dark- not sure I could even SEE to do that these days), has been replaced with DSLR and some editing software.
Nowadays, my passion and desire comes from my children. Each day there undoubtably comes a moment that I want to capture...a moment that I want to last a lifetime. With photography...that becomes a reality.
So today, not only am I able to create memories for myself but for the wonderful people around me. I have laughed and I have cried with people just like you! I am fulfilled by the happiness that I can give to to others. And THAT, my friends, is what keeps the fire burning!
Thanks for stopping by! These blogging challenges are kicking my butt, but hopefully you are getting to know me a little bit better! You can also follow me on Instagram if you are dying for more!! :)
Until next time...
